A candidate’s promise

During these final political campaign weeks, while the cacophony of caterwauling becomes overbearing, I have a simple request of the candidates:
Please put down the mud, stop your bickering against your opponent, wash your hands, turn to us, look us in the eye, and state, “I solemnly promise to you, the common citizen, who will never have the same benefits and financial perks that I will get in Washington, D.C. while in Congress, that I will look to your best interests and not the sole interest of my party as I serve to be your representative of the people, for the people.”
Then maybe, just maybe, we might know who will be the better candidate to represent North Dakota.
